The green tree gecko (Naultinus elegans) is a protected gecko found in the North Island and Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand. N. elegans is one of 8 species in the genus Naultinus, a genus endemic to New Zealand. Two subspecies, N. elegans elegans and N. elegans punctatus, are found in two distinct distributions; N. elegans elegans is found in north half of the North Island and islands within the Hauraki Gulf and N. elegans punctatus in the southern half of the North Island.

The gecko is small and slender, generally less than 15cm (6 inches) in length and 11 g (0.4 oz) in weight. It can be distinguished from other Naultinus species by its black tongue and grey/green soles on its feet.
